In many cases it starts before leaving for the field when I am planning an image. In other cases, an image comes to me by happenstance. Each landscape and photography situation is different. “Fine Art Imagery” is a term I use to describe an image that an artist, any artist, pours their soul into to bring the viewer a sense of wonderment, just for the sheer act of standing and gazing upon the photographic artwork. Fine Art Imagery starts with the subject and the light that falls on it. As an artist, it is my job to recognize an interesting subject, and then to capture it in the most pleasing light. This may not happen on the first try. The light may just not cooperate. In that case, a return visit is in order. What ever it takes to fulfill the vision I have of a subject. Many hours are spent at an interesting subject just waiting for the light to change to see if it might become more interesting and add something to the artistic vision I have for that subject. Photographic art does not just happen in an instant. Fine art photography for display on your wall at home or office is a process. Not a process done in an instant, but one that takes hours, even days and weeks.
After creating and fulfilling this artistic vision, it is then time to work tirelessly to create the quality of image my work deserves. It would be a crime to sweat and fret over an image only to slack off when it comes to producing the final print. In my other life as a photographer I created my art in a studio, usually of people. When I gave that up to create Fine Art Imagery, as an artist I had to make decisions on the direction I hoped to take my work. The work itself was not the problem. I knew what I wanted to create. The decision to be made was how do I present it to the public. Having run a studio for decades, I knew that the physical space upkeep and cost of a building made life much more hectic. So, my decision was a website. Same creative artwork, just an alternate way to present it.
